The small village in Prekmurje enclose with a lowland grasslands, swamp woods, good people and storks nest – in this way describes our village writer Miško Kranjec. Since last year 1999 we are very proud about the award ˝EUROPEAN STORK VILLAGE˝, which was conceived by the Euronatur Foundation. Velika Polana is the place where storks breed in particularly great numbers – 9 breeding pairs (the highest number in Slovenia) in both villages.

 Through the whole day the Storks are the part of a complete beatifull environment of lowland grasslands around our village, where they also find their food. At night they are coming back to his nests, which we can find on the electric bar or on the chimneys from old houses. Velika and Mala Polana have together 9 Nests. We can find them in a neighbourhoods of the people, they are used to be together with a people.

The rich natural heritage of our village with the White Storks is known under the name ˝European Stork Village˝.The inhabitants of the village Velika Polana are very proud about the award, which has been conceived by the Euronatur Foundation.

This title is a great pleasure but also a challenge which we are ready to take up. We all must proof that is possible to protect the stork´s habitats.

HOME OF THE WRITER MIŠKO KRANJEC

The writer Miško Kranjec was born in Velika Polana. In a house where he lived in a later period of his life is now a museum. The well-known writer in Slovenia, who most works are describing the village Velika Polana and the people who are living here. You will find nowhere better and beatifull presentation of our village and the people who are living here, as in his books.

Today otherwise you won´t find any muddy highways or macadamized roads, but here are still living good people with a simple way of life.

In a museum you will find some of his works, some personal things and you will hear everything about his life. He wrote about 50 novels, and some more works and that´s why he should be very well-known by all Slovenian people.

The museum is a interesting combination of writers working room, the gallery with his pictures and photos, the room where you will find out everything about his village Velika Polana, where he was born. At least you also can buy a souvenir which will remember you on the place where it was made.Renovated museum of the writer Miško Kranjec is the place, where you will find out everything about him and where you can find nice shadow to make a break for a while.

COTTAGE INDUSTRY

Beside natural and cultural heritage in our municipality you can also visit unique cottage industry.

Industrial undertaking is specialized for the objects made from natural materials. Variety of whole products will surprise you. If you will have a wish to try something to do by yourself you will have a chance.

The next master in a cottage industry will show you his skillness by his work Jožef Laki is a farmer and also a master in a cottage industry. Very usefull skillness .He also use the natural material: the softwood. His most done product is country implement. It can be made in a normal expanse or as a small souvenir.

COPEK´S MILL

The main tourist attraction, which we can find on the margin of a Polanski log. This was very important point in a time of a war. Today is this the only conserved mill on the brook Crnec. Once were here on the brook Crnec 5 mills in the length of 5 km. You asked why, come and we will explain you everything.

The mill is also known as the only one preserved preindustrial mill, which renovation was financed by the European Union. After the renovation the mill became also the miller, so you can see how the mill works. Technical object is protected as a historical monument, certainly is this also genuine monument of etnological heritage.

Who is looking can find: idyll in a modern times – Copek mill. In a margin of the Polanski log you can find the historical monument. With his natural look is the great part of a beatifull environment of the brook Crnec. The place is ideal to forget the world around and all problems you have. The place where you will get new power.

POLANSKI LOG

The unique natural heritage on such a small place is really rarity. Polanski log is a resort for a many species from the national Red List. Between the experts is this area known for the one of the largest European alder woods.

The way trough the wood we can walk on the Learning road into Polanski log. Every visitor can choose the length which he is ready to go.

Our woods are also full of different animals, which we can meet on our way through the wood. In most cases will that be the roe deer, but even red deer is sometimes to see. The red deer is coming in the summer to our woods from the Hungarian woods. Also the boars are coming from there, which have allready found their home in the swampy woods. In the margin of the woods we have to chance to see also the zool hear and zool pheasant. The slowly running waters are ideal place for the live of the many water birds.

Very suitable tour for those in prime condition we can recommend the renovated footway near the brook Crnec, which was used by our grandparents for the walk to town Lendava and to the vineyards of Lendava.

Polanski log-is hiding the rich natural heritage in this ecosystem. Beside the alder –the main tree in Polanski log, other species of animals and vegetable world found here their home. Including the Black Stork, which lives in a woods and it is avoiding people. Mocvirska logarica.

This is also the specie from the national Red List and is one of the known representative of lowland grasslands. Their growing places are known only to the inhabitants of our village.
